ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Adopted by DOE
The Department of Energy has adopted ASHRAE 90.1-2010 as the new National Reference Standard.
States will have until October, 2013 to update their commercial building energy codes to meet or exceed the requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2010. This revision requires much more exetnsive use of lighting controls than previous versions. It is anticipated that the adoption of the new standard will realize 18.2% more energy savings than ASHRAE 90.1-2007.
There are a number of significant changes in the new standard including, for the first time ever, mandated plug-load control.
Over the next several months Charron Incorporated salespeople will be distributing a revised CodeSmart brochure from Watt Stopper which compares the lighting control provisions of the three major energy codes (ASHRAE 90.1, IECC and California Title 24) on a side-by-side basis.
In the meantime, available on this website, is a downloadable information sheet comparing the recently adopted ASHRAE 90.1-2010 with the previous 2007 version. To access and download that file click here.
